Why you need to build a house

BECOME A LANDLORD IN ONE YEAR Part 3

WHY YOU NEED TO BUILD A HOUSE Contd..

Sociologists have discovered that people who have their own houses live more fulfilled lives than people who live in rented houses all their lives. It has been found out that at a certain stage of a person's life he needs some level of privacy, when this cannot be achieved, he becomes unexcited about life. Many are caught up in this frustrating web today but they often wear a smile to cover up the inner turmoil.

Majority of the men who died of hypertension and cardiac arrest are known to be people without their personal houses. At a particular age if you are still living in rented apartment you tend to lose respect of your family, who will begin to assess you as someone who lack discipline in spending money or being extravagant or at worst living above your income.

The popular adage that says one should save for a rainy day is talking about owning a house. At old age you may not be too attractive to stay with others. Your own children may not even want you around all the time because of the eccentric nature associated with the aged. The only way to avoid this kind of embarassment of rejection is to own your own house. In other words, those who want to live long must plan and work early in life to own a house to retire to at old age.

Do not waste your resources on vain attractions. Why should you be living in a rented apartment and you are spending so much on electronics and other luxuries when the fund could be channelled to buy at least a plot of land? Think about the future when you will no longer have enough strength to work as hard, when you will be forced into compulsory leave because of age.

I want you to look for an old man who can no longer stand straight, watch closely and you will soon realize that one day you will become like him, and also that, the old man was as youthful and energetic as you are today. You can start a hous building project at any age as long as you are still earning money.

Old age is very lonely. You must take your building project as serious as your children's education.

The best legacy a man can leave for his children after education is a house. If you leave only liabilities like cars and other machinery that they need money to maintain, they will ultimately end up being sold and nobody will praise you for that. Where is Chief Awolowo's bentley? But his houses still stand proud in many locations today.

There are only two kinds of association in any neighbourhood; residents association and landlords association. Which one do you belong? It is only landlords that are qualified to belong to the two groups. Aspire to become a landlord to have exclusive access to the two groups.

One of the major reasons I desired to own a house desperately in Lagos especially is because of independence from landlords and other tenants. Until you have a house of your own you will never understand the kind of peace landlords have in their lives, the mere fact that you are no longer subject to anyone in any way by reasons of tenancy agreement is a source of joy to you and your family.

Living in your own house puts you in charge of your environment. You determine who to see and who not to see.

Building a house is one life goal for any man worth his salt. Sadly though, it has been discovered that very few people build houses in their lifetime. Little wonder the bible says except the Lord build a house, those who try it labour in vain. It is not a subject for vain people at all but men worth their salt. Men who will partner with God in wisdom to do the needful and on time.

In the next blog, I will teach you how to raise money to build your house.......To be continued tommorrow.

Become a Landlord within a year Part 2

BECOME A LANDLORD IN ONE YEAR Part 2

Lets examine some other reasons why many people today have not succeeded in building their own houses.

Lack of Information- Information is powerful. It is all you need to take meaningful steps. If you do not have adequate information about any issue chances are high that you will gamble.

Wrong Advice - If you truly desire to build your own house, I strongly advice that you move with house owners that can share their experiences with you.

Joblessness - Many do not have jobs and many do have but the income is near meaningless. 90% of these group have not look for other sources of income aside from their regular active income. It has become old fashion to rely on one source of income. Get multiple source of income. In my subsequent posts I will share with you some steps you can take to ensure multiple sources of income.

Compulsive Spending - Many people postpone building their houses because the channels of their expenses are so many and even the competing liabilities are more than the income; some have transfered this duty to their children who are still students! If you cannot build in your own time what make you think your children will? Please leave a legacy and not a liability to your children.

Pessimism - Many are pessimists believing that it is not possible for them to buy land and own a house. Such people will stay in Lagos or a particular location all their lives, and they retire and become useless to themselves, to their children and the society.

Financial Indiscipline - Many people and perhaps including YOU, lack financial discipline needed to carry out a successful building project. They are unwilling to sacrifice and pay the price of discipline by cutting one luxury here and there and to reduce those useless telephone calls they make regularly.

Procrastination - To some people, it has always been neaxt year 'I will do something' and it is over five years now but they are yet to take any step towards actualizing that dream. Yet they have changed about two cars since they bought the land!

The worst of all these set of people are those waiting for the right time that will never come. Now, is the right time. Start with that seed in your hand. Most genuine land owners willing to sell land will accept instalment payment (I can assist you in this regard).

WHY YOU MUST OWN A HOUSE

Building a house should not be seen as a luxury to anybody or class of persons because almost everyone in the local setting owned a house before urbanization started. Infact one of the criteria for being a real man in those days is to have your own house. The political icon of Africa Nelson Mandela said ' if a man has not built a house, he has not got a home'.

If animals or lower creations could be homely by nature why should men seek for anything less? Birds build nests, lions live in customized dens, rats drill holes in other to have a place to lay their heads, humans should do better than animals who only act by instincts.

The lesson here is that if you want to build a house do not look at the extent of development before acquiring a land, particularly if you are building for the future. I have livde and worked in Lagos all my adult life and I know what it takes to acquire a plot of land, source for cheap building materials and how to manage the workmen on the project from foundation to roofing and finishing. It is this experience I will be sharing with you on this blog.

The first mistake people make is that once you buy a plot of land, you must build it from foundation to finish. This is very wrong. Once you start, build at your pace but ensure you work on it regularly. However, nothing stops anyone from completing it at your desired schedule if the resources are readily available. By the grace of God, my first personal house was completed from foundation to roofing and finishing in four months.

Every man that ever built a house did not do it by accident. It all began as a dream and burning desire to actualize this dream and when the opportunity came for them to act they did not miss it.

My desire to own a house came as a result of unforgettable embarassments I saw my parents suffer in the hands of shylock landlords while I was younger, coupled with the inconvenience of living with all manner of strange people in the same house as a tenant.

The last thing I wish to mention here in this episode is that if you truly desire to build your house, you must have a plan. That is why every house itself have a building plan. When you plan to have a house with a clear picture of how you intend to accomplish this task, every other thing will begin to fall into place. It is only this kind of planning that enables you to work harder and also change your spending habits.

I got an architect friend to draw my desired building plan for me in 2009 even before I bought the first land. I brooded over this plan. I prayed over it regularly. I desired to actualize it. Finally, in the first quarter of 2011 work started on it and three months later the house became a physical reality.

Become a Landlord in one year

It is common knowledge in our various cities and towns that those who think, plan and own houses are mostly the poor like Artisans, Masons, Tailors, Bricklayers, Carpenters, Drivers and Mechanics and so on. I have observed in dismay over the years that people who had better jobs and earned better income were not as thrifty and organized as the people mentioned above.

This blog is born out of experience and it will teach you the practical steps to take, no matter your income level on how: to save money, how to generate money from other sources or call it developing multiple streams of income.

I will teach you practically the type of land to buy, the steps you should take to preserve your interest in the land if you dont readily have enough money to start building, what you can do with the land itself to start generating money for its development. How to begin the actual building and where to get materials for its finishing, what you are to do when your title is challenged and the various forms of conflicts resolution methods available to you at no cost at all or at little cost.

After reading this blog, you MUST take immediate action, without action, you may never be able to build your house because inaction and ignorance is the reason why you are still a member of tenant association.

Have you considered the fact that the rents you have paid over the years when put together can build you a house that will be of your size and situation in life? Are you surprised? Calculate how much rent you pay as monthly rent and multiply it by twelve months and multiply again by the number of years you have paid rents so far. You will be too surprised that you are still a tenant.

In the second part of this blog, I will tell you more reasons why you are still a tenant and also show you how to get out of that web.

By the way, I own a building in Lagos to the glory of God so you have to listen to me.
